Product Description The New York Times bestselling author's Carpathian classic goes Manga!
Christine Feehan has reinvented the vampire novel with her New York Times bestselling Carpathian series. Now she and Berkley take her "out-of-the- ordinary" (Booklist) in a thrilling new direction--and this time it's more graphic than ever.
Riordan is an immortal Carpathian male, trapped and caged, his honor compromised by his captors. They're in his mind. They're in his blood. And not one can withstand his desire for revenge.
Juliette is an activist devoted to liberating animals from a secret jungle lab. What she stumbles upon is a prisoner like no other. She will release him from his bonds. He will release her from her inhibitions.

Fooled me on this one July 26, 2008 I am a big fan of the Carpathian series, and have enjoyed finding the books on Amazon. I saw this and thought how wonderful, a story I haven't read. Imagine my surprise when a comic book arrived. I didn't understand the word "Manga" but now I do, it means cartoon. I was so disappointed with the book, I tried to "read" it but found the whole thing ridiculous. If you are looking for a good tale about the Carpathians, this is NOT it.
Not as expected July 4, 2008 I purchased this book as part of a promotion when I puchased another by Christine Feehan. I had no idea that this was essentially a comic book. I am very disappointed.
Dark (Unintentional) Humor June 23, 2008 As someone with a bit of a soft spot for vampire-themed manga and anime, I figured this was worth a try from out of the clearance bin. What I didn't realize until I sat down to read it is that this is a graphic novel adaptation of a previously published short story, available in this anthology: Hot Blooded.
An immortal blood sucking vampire hunter, Riordan, is captured, caged, and poisoned by the very vampires he is hunting. His violent musings upon his ultimate vengeance are surprisingly interrupted by a seemingly man-hating animal activist bent on freeing caged animals who stumbles upon Riordan's cage. As he is preparing to attack her, he is stunned to find himself sensing that she is his destined life mate, the one he had all but given up seeking. For obvious and not so obvious reasons, Juliette tries desperately to resist him, and he spends the rest of the book trying to convince her.
That's pretty much it.
Unlike a number of reviewers, I was pleased by the (functional but nothing spectacular) Japanese manga-style artwork; my problem was more with the story. Despite its source being a short story rather than a novel, it is clear that a lot had to be left out beyond merely all of the sex. The somewhat complicated back story of the Carpathians in general and Riordan in particular suffers considerably from the truncation as does the character development, which is all but eliminated. What was NOT trimmed enough IMHO was the stilted, unintentionally hilarious dialog. If it is at all representative of the original, the adaptation would have benefited greatly from a lot more of its story being told in pictures than in words.
Still, the main characters are impossible to dislike for long, and the premise certainly has promise. Unfortunately, the neither fish nor fowl result is likely to disappoint both manga and romance fans alike.
ummm June 19, 2008 Well a lot of people have been saying they did not know this was a comic book, but you can tell from the cover. Regardless, I got this comic when I found it for $1.99 at the bookstore. I don't like comics, and I didn't really like this one too much. I like Feehan's books, but I did not like this.
Dark Hunger April 14, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I was disappointed in Dark Hunger because it turned out to be a comic book. I certainly wouldn't pay that sum of money for a comic book. I felt like I was watching the Saturday morning comics and it was not pleasant. I enjoy reading Christine Feehan books, whether they be the Carpathian novels, or the Ghostwalker books, or the Drake sisters books. This could not even be compared to her other books. I feel that Amazon should have stated that this was a short comic book, rather than a Carpathian novel. Total disappointment!!!
